How to choose a penis ring

Penis rings come in a few basic designs. Fit, material, and stretch matter more than anything else, so start there. Most people begin with one stretchy ring and add others later.

01

Stretchy, adjustable, or rigid

Stretchy silicone rings are the easiest starting point because they roll on and off and adapt to your size. Adjustable rings use snaps, a bolo slide, or a strap so you can set the tightness. Rigid rings in metal or hard plastic require exact sizing and are best left to experienced users who know their measurements.

02

Single ring or dual ring

A single penis ring sits at the base of the shaft. Dual designs add a second loop around the scrotum for a more secure fit and extra pressure. Oxballs makes thick, textured silicone versions, while Tantus focuses on firm, simple shapes that clean easily.

03

Adding vibration

A vibrating penis ring has a small motor, often on top, that rests against a partner's clitoris during penetration. Rechargeable models usually run longer and stronger than disposable ones. Many are waterproof, and they pair well with other couples sex toys.

04

Wear it safely

  • Limit wear to about 20 to 30 minutes at a time.
  • Remove the ring right away if you feel pain or numbness, or notice a color change.
  • Use water-based lube with silicone rings.
  • Never sleep in a ring.

FAQ

Cock Rings: common questions

Quick answers from our team. Need more help? Call 800-618-6053.

How tight should a cock ring be?
A ring should feel snug but never painful, and you should be able to remove it easily at any time. If you notice numbness, coldness, pain, or a change in skin color, take it off right away. Stretchy silicone rings give the most room for error while you learn your size.
How long can you wear a penis ring?
Most guidance suggests about 20 to 30 minutes at a time. After that, take the ring off and let normal circulation return before wearing it again. Never fall asleep wearing one, and remove it immediately if anything feels uncomfortable or looks discolored.
What is a vibrating penis ring used for?
A vibrating penis ring adds a small motor to a standard ring. During partnered sex the motor usually rests against the partner's clitoris, giving both people sensation at once. You can also turn it around to sit against the scrotum or perineum. Rechargeable versions are stronger and cost less over time.
What material is best for penis rings?
Body-safe silicone is the best choice for most people because it stretches, feels soft, and cleans easily. Metal rings look sleek but have no give, so sizing must be exact. Avoid cheap jelly rubber, which can tear and is hard to clean. Use water-based lube with silicone rings.
